Black Dragon Key Binding Settings

Black Dragon is a fantastic viewer, especially for photographers in second life, but like any change it takes some getting used to. Probably the biggest change is the way movement and camera settings are done. I would say that Amethyst has done a fantastic job, and you should try and work with what he has built. But if you just can’t get used to it here’s the simple guide to changing your key bindings so movement will be the same as what you’re probably used to in Firefox.

First things first, I’ll be setting up movement to my arrow keys. You can set them to whatever you like but using the arrow keys doesn’t interfere with any other bindings which make it simple to set up without breaking something else. Lets get started.

First hit Control+P to bring up your preferences

Now we’ll head to “Key Bindings”

We’re going to find two existing bindings, “Turn Right” and “Turn Left”.

Double click on one of those and just hit your left arrow for left turn and then your right arrow for right turn (or vice versa if you want to feel permanently drunk in world).

Next we’ll change to the “Controls” tab. Here we will change a couple of settings to make our movement work like Firestorm.

First uncheck “Arrows always move me”. This stops the camera from moving if you decide to arrow back in chat to fix your terrible typing. This isn’t essential but if you’re anything like me you’ll need it since black dragon doesn’t support autocorrect (unless you also want to sound drunk too).

Once you’ve done those steps set your camera view to Rear View and it should be exactly the same as what you would expect in other viewers.

Hopefully this helps you get started in Black Dragon. Don’t be afraid to explore and try deafferent settings because there is so much built into it to try out.

Don’t forget to show Amethyst some love and consider supporting Black Dragon by becoming a Patreon supporter
